Tooth Extractions

Tooth Extractions

There are many reasons that you may need a tooth extracted. Having your wisdom teeth removed is the most common tooth extraction in the U.K, but any tooth that is affected by decay, disease or trauma may require removal. Your dentist will investigate and explore all possible avenues, such as a root canal or crown, before recommending the extraction of any tooth.

Reasons for Wisdom Teeth Extraction

  • Cellulitis, a bacterial infection in the cheek, tongue or throat
  • Overcrowded teeth
  • Impacted or partially impacted wisdom teeth
  • Bone damage
  • Inflammation or gum disease
  • Dental caries (decayed wisdom teeth)

If you are experiencing severe pain or discomfort from your wisdom teeth, please make an appointment as soon as possible. Your dentist will examine your teeth, and an x-ray of the mouth will provide a clearer picture and advise you whether the tooth requires removal. Your dentist may be able to perform the procedure under local anaesthetic, or you will receive a referral to a specialist surgeon for hospital treatment.
